A customer in the medical industry needed a company with specialized experience in the design and fabrication of complex spring assemblies. Spring Manufacturing Corporation was contracted to perform the required work, consisting of design assistance, prototype and run production of a spring latch for a battery enclosure on a high impact defibrillator case. The battery door was required to remain closed when dropped from a specified height yet still retain an ease of opening for battery replacement during emergency situations.
The spring was designed as three separate parts, to be mechanically joined into one functioning spring clip. Specialized tooling was designed and created for this application, and 17-7 condition A along with 302 stainless steels in sizes .010″ x 1.00″ flat and .059″ round were chosen for the part. Our state-of-the-art pneumatic presses were employed for the complex bending operations used to form the spring. A tight tolerance of ±0.005″ was achieved during fabrication. This project was completed according to customer standards, producing 5,000 to 10,000 pieces per order on a JIT shipping schedule.
